It starts out a little shaky but once you get a few minutes in the slides come into focus... This is a talk that was given at Cricklewood Library on 9th October 2008 by Malcolm Barres-Baker, of the Brent Museum. He gave a talk with slideshow about the history of Cricklewood illustrated with photos from the local archives. Many thanks to Lynette for doing this.
Name of “Cricklewood” is Saxon for “the wood with the uneven outline”.
What is FixMyStreet for? FixMyStreet is a site to help people and groups like NW2 report, view, or discuss local problems they've found to their local council by simply locating them on a map.
What sort of things? Can you give me some examples? Sure. Graffiti, fly-tipping, unlit lampposts, abandoned beds, broken glass on a cycle path; anything like that that could be usefully reported to Brent council to be fixed.
There's a quick link to Fix My Street on the left hand side of our website.
Sgt Richard Jackson has just sent an urgent warning:
3 days ago, in Teignmouth Road, 3 males knocked on the door of a house claiming to be BT Engineers. They were described as one well-spoken black youth with short black hair, accompanied by 2 white males.
They requested access to the property to do some line testing, but, as they were not in uniform and no appointment had been made, the occupier quite rightly refused them access, and they ran off.
It has come to our attention that the former New Heights Furniture Shop in Cricklewood Broadway has been taken over by a supermarket called Way – 2 – save. The owner has applied for a 24 hour drinks licence. Apparently they have another branch in Neasden which has very good food – fresh fruit and veg and halal butchers catering for every section of the community, which would add to the choices for supermarket shopping in the area in a positive way.

Greetings, I am Sergeant Jackson and I lead the Mapesbury safer neighbourhood team, with the nights closing in, it is a good time of year to review your homes security. It is time to get out and test your IR motion sensor lights, to ensure they are being activated. Also have a walk around your garden front and rear and consider "if I was a Burglar" what would I be looking for? (A broken fence, a ladder unlocked, Overgrown Bushes?) .
