About Us
A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
We launched in September 2007 as a group of interested local residents wanting to improve the sense of community in our area with a public meeting at the Crown Moran Hotel which was very well attended by local residents.
We have so far:
Won 1st Prize in the Neighbourhood Award category of Brent in Bloom 2008 & 2009 competitions. Our trophy is displayed in Munroes Stores Newton Road, and our brass plagues are situated next to our first notice board outside Munros Food Shop. We now have a second notice board supplied by Brent Council located on Temple Road.
We have our own community allotment - please get in touch if you would like to get involved!
We now have flower troughs and hanging baskets on Temple, Newton, Langton, Wotton and outside the Thames Water Building on St Michael's Road and the Manor Gym & Health Club in Temple Road.
The flowers planted around the trees in Temple, Wotton, Langton and Newton Road are all maintained and planted by us and we hope that more residents will plant in other roads.
We have hosted several pub quizzes and raffles which help fund our community planting and events.
The Rainbow Park Family Day on 28th June 2009 was a success with residents participating to plant their own troughs, cake-baking competition, live music, raffle prizes donated by The Heritage, The Abingdon, Local Residents, Cricklewood Glass, Hammonds Butchers, Akhtar Chemist, Express Dry Cleaners and many more!
Successfully opposed a 24 hour alcohol licence application.
We have been nominated for the London in Bloom Neighbourhood award.
NorthWestTwo Directory is being published
Walkabout of the area with local Councillors and Brent officials - photographs and details on this site. As a result, most of the graffiti on Cricklewood Broadway and surrounding area has or is being removed.
Neighbourhood Clean up was held in March 2009. Starting and finishing in Temple Road we litter picked the neighbourhood helped by the Langton Road skate crew.
Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday 2009 held in Rainbow Park Children's Playground in Langton Road became known as the "Legend of the Golden Bunnies". 3 golden Easter Bunnies were hidden and only 2 found!
Obtained a Grassroots Grant for £5,000 to pay for hanging baskets on Cricklewood Broadway and surrounding roads.
We arranged a meeting to discuss the problem of street drinking which was attended by representatives of the local police Safer Neighbourhood Teams (for Brent, Barnet & Camden) by local councillors and by the Barnet Drug and Alcohol Team. This was followed by a walkabout on the Barnet side of the Broadway with police and local councillors with a view to getting a Controlled Drinking Zone introduced in Barnet to target, in particular, the area around B & Q.
We have representatives on the Cricklewood Forum, Mapesbury SNT Ward Panel meetings, GPCC, Brent Graffiti Focus Group, Cricklewood Homeless Concern Steering Group and Friends of Cricklewood Library.
We have good working relationships with Brent Council and meet and have regular contact with the team leaders in many departments, as well Sgt Jackson and his Safer Neighbourhood Team and, of course, our local Councillors; Cllr Hayley Matthews, Cllr Chris Leaman and Cllr Sami Hashmi.
We work closely with local businesses who also support us:
Tommy Moran of the Crown Moran Hotel provides, free of charge, the Sala Room for our public open meetings as well an area in the Crown Pub for our pub quizzes
Ormond Construction help with printing and helped sponsor our Easter Egg Hunt.
Monro Stores in Temple Road donates raffle prizes, printing and has helped with a community notice board sited outside Mr Patel's shop in Temple Road.
Thames Water in St Michael's Road and the Manor Gym & Health Club in Temple Road participate in Brent in Bloom.
Many of the shops on the Broadway help by displaying our notices and newsletters.
We have introduced a subscription the monies will be used to maintain and increase our newsletter, website and plan to beautify the neighbourhood with flower displays.
