Easter Egg Hunt - Sunday 12 April 2009

Anticipation was in the air. Children were trying to peep out windows to spot hiding places only to be caught and shooed away. At the start time, many patiently waited at the gate to get in and grab their eggs. They got the rules and off they went.

Easter Egg Hunt aka "The Legend of the Golden Bunnies"

Only 2 of the 3 Golden Eggs were found!

Anticipation was in the air. Children were trying to peep out windows to spot hiding places only to be caught and shooed away. At the start time, many patiently waited at the gate to get in and grab their eggs. They got the rules and off they went.

Aida from Temple Road was the first to show up and give a hand hiding the eggs. Other fellow Langton Road neighbours Igor (sons Andrej and Matej), Keith and Jana (son Kyle) arrived and cleverly hid the eggs with Aida and me.

A final bit of litter picking and we were ready for the kids. Six tots came with a few more following later. It wasn't heaving but a goodly amount of people were there. India from Temple Road won the bubble wand for the most amount for a girl.

Martin from Newton Road won the most for boy and for his efforts, got a large cadbury flake egg and a tooth brush - very handy for all the sweets that he gathered up.

A group of four became teammates (August, Monika, Beata, Paul) and they won the teammate award - which was Majella and Ben's space hoppers (I saw August and Monika happily run off with theirs), a large Toblerone Egg and a bubble wand from Matalan. Little Matej from Langton Road won the toothbrush for Tots category. Many satisfied customers, especially the tots as they left as soon as they filled their baskets! They got what they wanted and that was enough. And Martin was so eager to tidy up, he practically picked up all the litter which got him an egg for his industriousness.

And then there is the legend of the Golden Bunny. Rumour has it that there were 3 Golden Bunnies and only 2 were found (Little Trixie found one in the Tots hunt and Paul from Newton Road found the 2nd one.) So the kids have been looking in the bushes all day trying to find the supposed 3rd Gold Bunny.

Later on, one resident who had her little boy in hand, came up to a parent who helped hide the eggs enquiring about this 3rd Golden bunny and had any one found it yet. So the legend lives on. Where is that 3rd bunny???

My bran/coconut/chocolate or shredded wheat/coconut/chocolate nests were a hit as well as the egg decorating - the kids loved making them and putting everything in the world on them from marshmallows to mini chocolate eggs.

Quite a few people donated boiled eggs. I dyed mine blue and they went like hotcakes. Some were coloured and some weren't but it didn't matter and the kids just designed and glued away with their egg.

It was nice to see neighbours talk to each other and everyone gave compliments on what a wonderful event it was for the neighbourhood.

See you next year!
